UC Irvine has removed “Israel: The politics of Genocide” and other direct references to Israel, etc, from the Campus Marquees. They have also issued the “disclaimer” “: “Marquee announcements may not represent UCI sponsorship.” Photos have been taken of the Marquees.
On May 7, 2009, a letter from the Task Force requested that the University take immediate steps to remove that advertisement, issue a disclaimer distancing UC Irvine and where appropriate, apply sanctions in accordance with the policies of the University of California, the University of California, Irvine and California Education Code.
It should be noted that the use of the official Seal of the University of California, was unauthorized and inappropriately displayed on promotional material for the January 31, 2009, anti-Israel program: Wither the Levant? The Crisis of the Nation State: Lebanon, Israel and Palestine, organized by the Levantine Cultural Center of Los Angeles and the Middle East Studies Student Initiative. The Task Force contacted the Chancellors office, who in turn determined that the use of the seal was unauthorized and ordered it’s removed from promotional material. Read: Task Force Letter
