Statement on anti-Semitism in Higher Education

The Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum,  Kenneth L. Marcus, City University of New York,  Baruch College, School of Public Affairs and UC Santa Cruz Jewish Studies professor Tammi Rossman-Benjamin co-convened a workshop on contemporary anti-Semitism in higher education from July 26 – August 6, 2010.    The participants issued the following public statement and requested that the Orange County Independent Task Force on anti-Semitism endorse and post  it on our website.  The Orange County Independent Task Force on anti-Semitism endorses this statement and endorses it’s recommendations:

“Contemporary Antisemitism in Higher Education: Manifestations, Sources, and Responses.”

Among other things, the statement calls on university administrators to develop policies and practices on antisemitism, for full enforcement of Title VI against campus antisemitism, as well as for an amendment to Title VI which would explicitly prohibit religious discrimination in federally funded U.S. educational institutions.
