“Members of Jewish student groups on campus could not be reached Wednesday afternoon.”

How did this disgraceful resolution pass right under the collective noses of  Campus Jewish Student Groups and so-called organized Jewish Community Leadership Organizations such as the Jewish Federation, without so much as a challenge or even simple debate?  OCITF

By Lauren Williams 3:30 PM PST, November 14, 2012

UC Irvine’s student council has asked the university to withdraw investments from American companies that do business in Israel.

The Associated Students voted 16 to 0 to urge UCI to stop investing in Caterpillar, General Motors, Hewlett-Packard, Raytheon and other firms that “contribute to illegal settlement construction in the occupied Palestinian territories,” according to a statement.

The students pledged in the statement to scrutinize other UCI investments for companies that profit from what they deemed human-rights abuses. Continue reading

Alert: UC Irvine Student Senate Passes Anti-Israel Divestment Resolution

UC Irvine Student Senate Resolves to Divest From Israel

November 14, 2012 8:28 am The Algemeiner

The University of California, Irvine student senate passed a non-binding resolution Tuesday night asking the school to divest from eight companies doing business with Israel, accusing the Jewish state of “apartheid.”

The resolution has not yet earned the approval of the UC Irvine student government’s executive board, a body that would pass on the resolution to the school’s administration. If UC Irvine adopts legislation recommending divestment from companies doing business with Israel, it would be the first California campus to do so.

Associated Students-UC Irvine (ASUCI) voted 16-0 to request divestment from Caterpillar, Cement Roadstones Holding, Cemex, General Electric, Hewlett-Packard, Raytheon, Sodastream, and L-3 Communications, according to the resolution. ASUCI—using language resembling that of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement—said those companies “have promoted and been complicit” in “ongoing human rights violations systematically committed by the Israeli government.” http://www.algemeiner.com/2012/11/14/uc-irvine-student-senate-resolves-to-divest-from-israel/
